Dear Friends,
I have 2 very exciting things to talk to you about today.
In these most difficult yet exciting times, I often reflect back
on a piece of advice my father passed on to me from one of his teachers
at Seton Hall University. This wonderfully educated Jesuit Priest,
when asked about the destruction of the world by mankind and the
atomic bomb just after the Second World War, said simply, “man
did not create the earth and he has not the ability to destroy it.”
I believe the concept here is that while we may be in the midst of
turbulent times; financial, social and personal, there are generally
answers and these often are simpler and more predictable than we
might think. The cycles of weather, politics and finance in the world
are predictable and many great thinkers affirm this. The underlying
message that comes from them is if we remain calm and understand
that keeping our sanity is the key to dealing with and resolving
most situations, all will work out better.
This is vitally important to our health, in that when we let these
stresses overwhelm us, our blood pressure goes up, immune function
deteriorates and we get sick. I have recently seen more people in
my practice and also personal acquaintances becoming ill than I can
ever recall. The answer is that much of this illness is due to the
individual’s perception (not the actual reality) of changes
for which there appear to be no clear or easy answers. So the “cure”,
the secret, the key, is to keep life and its stresses in perspective;
stay calm and in control of you and your inner world while the cycle
of life goes on.
I am fairly comfortable, as my father’s teacher pointed out,
the world and most of our lives will go on, the key question is how
they will do so. This applies more urgently to maintaining our own
personal health than anything. Stress is the number one cause of
most of the disease we as doctors see in our offices and there are
simple and predictable answers.
While I may not have the answer to all of our world’s political
and economic plights, I certainly can help you stay healthy and not
get sick while the cycles complete themselves. This brings me back
to the 2 exciting pieces of news I have to share with you.
The first is that Dr Bernie Siegel, Author of Love Medicine
and Miracles, and the father of the concepts we today refer
to as mind body healing is going to be here in Philadelphia May 9th
and his talk will be open to both patients and medical professionals
together. This is a very exciting event for me and Bernie is a wonderful
speaker. If you or someone you know who wishes to learn about healing,
not just cancer, but healing for living life, make plans to be there.
I will. A flier is attached for view on our website and tickets are
now on sale. Click here
Second, I have finally completed my book on healing through self-hypnosis.
It is called A Surgeon’s Self-Hypnosis Healing Solution- My
Father’s Secret. It is the story of how I learned a better
way for us all to heal and how I came to know it. More so, it is
my sharing the healing techniques I use in my practice and life to
treat and heal patients with nerve pain, hypertension, heart disease,
stress, anxiety and those who must undergo surgery. Please visit
our website or www.myfatherssecret.com for
more information on the book.
I hope to see you at Bernie’s talk or hear from you if you
have questions or thoughts concerning healing in these most challenging
times. I am an eternal optimist and truly believe that history will
write these times as some of the most challenging and yet rewarding
in modern history.
May you live long, pain free and prosper.
Scott
